After some sterling performances on the Guitar Hero drum kit, I decided it would be fun to try and play the proper instrument. I was a little unsure at first, given my age, previous minimal musical experience and the sheer size of the drum kit I was presented, but Rossini has turned me into a confident and relaxed (if not quite as gifted as I first thought) drummer. My playing has improved significantly over the past 18 months, and I am looking forward to broadening my skills and experiencing different styles of music.
My rhythm has definitely improved, and I also find that listening to music is more pleasurable, as I often try to dissect favourite tracks to understand the drum part. Drumming helps with my fitness levels, flexibility and I am sure my mental agility improves shortly after drumming. I always look forward to my next lesson and although it is unlikely many people will see me drum live, after an enjoyable session, it doesn't matter.
