Joel Rothman
Joel Rothman, is the renowned author of almost 100 drum and percussion books, many of which are among the most popular books used by teachers in private studios, as well as schools and universities worldwide.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Joel studies drums and percussion, as well as piano, with well-known teachers such as Sam Ulano, Ed Shaughnessey, Jim Chapin, Joe Morello, Saul Goodman, and many others.
He first opened his own private drum studio at the age of sixteen, then later after graduating university, he also taught in the
New York City School System for many years. During that time Joel was a free-lance drummer playing with various bands at private functions, night clubs and musical shows.
Writing his first book at the young age of fifteen, Joel also established his own publishing company JR PUBLICATIONS.
For many years he continued to write , publish and promote his books. In time he moved from New York City to London, England where he now resides. At present Joel continues to write and publish drum and percussion books--he also has an extensive
teaching practice mostly for advanced and professional players who flock to him from all over Europe, as well as other
far away countries in order learn to read big band charts as well as classical repertoire , gain technique for breaks and solos, as well as develop coordination for jazz and rock.
His system of teaching is unique, as are his books which all set out is a clear, logical and developmental approach certain to bring results. One of his former students and good friend is Rossini Cavalcante, who is now one of the leading drum and percussion teachers in Scotland.
